Independence first.

The Institute for Governance operates on a strict funding model to ensure our research findings remain insulated from corporate influence. We do not accept consulting engagements from the companies we analyze.

Methodology

Our findings rely on primary source documents: proxy statements, 10-Ks, 8-Ks, and institutional voting records. We do not rely on corporate press releases or self-reported sustainability reports without verifying the underlying data structures.

For more on how we gather data, see our research portal or examine our ESG reporting criteria.

Our Stance on Current Trends

We view the current standard of board evaluations as performative. Real evaluation requires external auditing of decision-making processes, not just self-administered surveys. See our Board Evaluation Tool for a more rigorous approach.
